How do I know if my hanger is bent?
The first indication will be gear problems, sometimes present after an incident, where the rear derailleur may have received impact. Take the bike to your LBC for evaluation. Hangers can be straightened.
Hangers can be straightened, why do I need a spare?
Perhaps less often, but hangers do brake. The result of which is catastrophic to gearing. Hangers are small enough to keep spare and definitely important enough to have at least one spare per bike.
How do I replace a hanger?
Hangers are fixed to the frame, and require removal of rear wheel and rear derailleur, to access the mounting bolts. Inspect the drivetrain for any signs of damage consistent with the damaged hanger.
